Representative Nehkar Gaye has strongly refuted recent claims of corruption made against members of the Liberian Legislature, particularly targeting statements by CMC Musa Bility. Speaking live on a local radio, Representative Gaye condemned what he described as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of lawmakers.
Addressing Rep. Bility directly, Representative Gaye stated: “You have been paid with taxpayers’ money, but you say the Legislature is corrupt. You’re corrupt as well. You want to present yourself as a saint that has no fault. This is deception.”
He argued that leadership is not about distributing rice or cement bags for temporary relief but about demonstrating vision, accountability, and measurable results. “It is not giving people cement bags and rice that should make you a leader. How many problems has he solved? How many organizations has he led before, and what have been the results?” Rep. Gaye questioned. Representative Gaye further accused Bility of engaging in tactics that undermine the credibility of national institutions rather than contributing to their strengthening.
According to him, such actions not only erode public trust but also derail the progress that Liberia is striving to achieve. “Your actions are intended to damage the character of people in the Legislature, and you need to stop,” he emphasized. The lawmaker reminded the public that while the Legislature is not without its challenges, it remains the cornerstone of Liberia’s democracy.
He urged citizens to be cautious about one-sided narratives that aim to create division between leaders and the people they represent. Representative Gaye concluded by reaffirming his commitment to transparency, accountability, and service to the Liberian people, while calling for constructive engagement in national discourse rather than destructive accusations.
