Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar risks arrest after allegedly failing to pay US $65,025 in temporary alimony to his wife. A temporary alimony is a financial support given to a lower-earning spouse during a divorce to help cover living expenses. The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Monrovia had ordered the payment as part of an ongoing divorce case between Senator Kogar and his wife, Mrs. Ramatta Yoada Kogar.
Judge George W. Smith instructed that the money be paid to the court sheriff no later than August 4, 2025. That deadline passed over a month ago, and the payment has not allegedly been made. Under the law, a person may face arrest for failing to obey a court-ordered payment if they are found to have willfully refused to pay despite having the means.
The court's order was signed by Clerk Victor G. Gailor and approved by Judge Smith on July 25, 2025. Legal action, including possible arrest, may now be taken to enforce the judgment. Meanwhile, Senator Korgar is yet to confirm to Spoon News as to whether or not he has received the payment order from the court.
