The Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, recently paid a working visit to the Rehabilitation Center for disadvantaged youths at the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) facility in Johnsonville. The visit underscored Speaker Koon’s deep concern for the growing challenge of drug abuse among Liberia’s young people and his determination to contribute meaningfully to ongoing efforts aimed at their recovery and reintegration into society. During his visit, the Speaker toured the facility, interacted with staff, and held candid discussions with several youths currently undergoing rehabilitation. He assured them of his unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives designed to restore dignity and hope to young Liberians battling drug addiction. “As a nation, we cannot afford to abandon our young people who have fallen victim to drugs.

They remain an integral part of our future, and it is our responsibility to stand with them on their journey to recovery,” Speaker Koon said. Demonstrating his support, the Speaker made a personal donation of Fifty Thousand Liberian Dollars (L$50,000) to the center. In addition, he pledged to provide a mobile clinic on a weekly basis to assist in the treatment, counseling, and medical care of disadvantaged youths at the facility. Speaker Koon further called for collective efforts by government, civil society, and community stakeholders in tackling the drug abuse crisis. He emphasized that rehabilitation and reintegration must go hand in hand with creating opportunities for skills development, education, and employment. The management of the center expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his timely intervention and pledged to use the resources provided to strengthen the facility’s capacity in caring for the young people. Speaker Koon reaffirmed that his office will continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to ensure that disadvantaged youths receive the support they need to transform their lives and become productive citizens.
