The United Methodist University (UMU) on Friday inaugurated its new Student Representative Council (SRC) President, ushering in a new chapter of student leadership. Hope Korpo Freeman, a senior student in the College of Business and Administration, was sworn in as the 21st graduating class and the SRC's president. Alongside her, Augustine Boakai (Junior Class President), Youcojay Tino Junius (Sophomore Class President), and Abduramane Diallo (Freshman Class President) were also sworn into office. Freeman's election marks a significant milestone in UMU's history. Throughout her academic career, she has garnered consistent support from the student body, demonstrated by her successful campaigns in every SRC election she has contested since enrolling in 2021.

Madam Freeman holds the distinction of being the first and only female student leader in the university's history to have been elected to the presidency in  four separate elections, representing the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and now Senior classes, culminating in her  current role as SRC President. Delivering her Inaugural  address, President Freeman reiterated her commitment for unity and support to the students. "Today represents a pivotal moment in the history of our  university," President Freeman stated during her address delivered to the students. "A moment defined by hope, renewal, and an unshakeable dedication to progress."

She noted. Expressing her gratitude for the confidence placed in her by the student body, President Freeman acknowledged the weight of the responsibility and vowed to represent the interests of the student population. "I am deeply humbled by the trust you have bestowed upon me, and I pledge to serve as your advocate and voice within this institution," She said. Recognizing the challenges faced by students,  President  Freeman  outlined key priorities for her tenure, focusing on policies designed to support the student body, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the learning environment. "Education is not merely a process, but the very bedrock of advancement," President Freeman asserted, highlighting its fundamental role. "It is the key that unlocks individual potential and the cornerstone upon which a thriving society is built."

President Freeman disclosed plans to  improve the learning environment. Freeman stated that the SRC plans to purchase 2,000 modern armchairs, making education more accessible and affordable for all students. "Our commitment is to invest in the future – because investing in our students is investing in our country's prosperity," President Freeman stated. The  SRC president called on students to work together to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. "Let us embark on this new chapter with unity and resolve," She said. "Our vision is clear: a university where every student has the opportunity to succeed, where hope prevails, and where progress is measured by the achievements of our young generation."

Freeman's political career began nearly a decade ago with a landslide victory in 2020,  as Student Council President at St. Martin Catholic High School in Gbarnga, Bong County. Political analysts say Freeman's early political victories suggest a potentially dominant future for her in Liberian politics. President Freeman's inauguration marks a new era of hope and progress for the United Methodist University, as she leads the SRC in its mission to support students and promote academic excellence.
