The Unity Party (UP) informs its partisans, supporters, and the general public that, in line with its Constitution and in defense of its values of accountability, discipline, and collective responsibility, the National Executive Committee (NEC), in a Special Sitting held on September 13, 2025, reached a landmark decision to suspend several of its members for delinquency in performing their duties to the Party.

This disciplinary measure comes as a result of the persistent failure of the affected NEC members to attend official committee meetings and their continued neglect of Party activities, despite repeated reminders and calls for full participation. The Unity Party views these acts of absenteeism and non-compliance as a serious breach of trust, undermining the NEC’s responsibility to provide effective leadership and guidance to the Party.

According to the resolution adopted during the Special Sitting, these actions constitute a violation of the obligations of NEC members to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the Party, as enshrined in its Constitution. Consistent with Articles 19 and 16, Subsection 4 of the Unity Party Constitution, the suspended NEC members will face a one-month suspension

In addition, each affected member is required to pay a fine of One Thousand United States Dollars (US$1,000.00) into the Party’s account during the suspension period. Proof of payment must be presented during the NEC’s next sitting. The resolution further warns that any NEC member who fails to comply with this mandate within the prescribed time will face expulsion from the National Executive Committee.

The Party emphasized that discipline, punctuality, and commitment are non-negotiable principles, and no member, regardless of status, is above the rules and obligations of the Unity Party Constitution. In addition to the suspensions, the Special Sitting also resolved to urge all delinquent due-paying members to settle their outstanding financial obligations within one month

The Party underscored that its sustainability and operational effectiveness depend heavily on dues and contributions from its members. Failure by any executive committee member to pay dues during the specified period will result in serious consequences, consistent with the provisions of the Constitution. The following individuals have been suspended for delinquency in their duties, each subject to a one-month suspension and a fine of US$1,000.00, except where otherwise noted:

The Unity Party reiterates that these measures are not punitive but corrective, aimed at restoring discipline, accountability, and active participation within the Party’s leadership. The decision demonstrates UP’s unwavering commitment to institutional reform, transparency, and internal democracy

“The Unity Party cannot tolerate complacency at a time when Liberians look to us for leadership and direction,” the resolution stated. “Every NEC member has a sacred duty to uphold the Constitution, honor the trust of the partisans, and put the Party’s interests above personal convenience.” The Unity Party reassures its members, supporters, and the general public that it remains dedicated to building a strong, disciplined, and united institution capable of advancing the aspirations of the Liberian people.

The Party also commended all members who continue to demonstrate unwavering dedication, urging them to remain steadfast as the Unity Party strengthens its internal structures in preparation for the tasks ahead.
