The Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Sr., today, Sunday, October 12,2025, represented His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., at the 17th Street Mosque and Islamic Center in Monrovia for the final prayer and Islamic rites of the late Mr. Yaya Sow, a distinguished member of the Board of the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) and a staunch partisan of the Unity Party.
In a message of condolence delivered on behalf of the President, Vice President Koung expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Mr. Sow, describing him as “a dedicated public servant, a cherished comrade, and an ardent supporter of our shared vision for Liberia.”
The Vice President recalled Mr. Sow’s contributions as a progressive scholar and a leading voice within the Fula community—one who stood firmly for national unity, development, and selfless service to others.
He noted that Mr. Sow’s final act, attempting to rescue another person, exemplified his lifelong character of compassion and courage. “The President had just returned from official travels last night and deeply regretted his inability to attend personally,” Vice President Koung said. “He asked me to represent him, the Government, and the people of Liberia at this solemn occasion, in recognition of the importance of Mr. Sow’s service and legacy.” On behalf of the President, the Vice President extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire Fula and Muslim communities, noting that Mr. Sow’s passing represents a significant loss to the nation.
