Boakai Summons Legislature for Emergency Session on Cash Printing, Budget Priorities

President Joseph N. Boakai has called the 55th Legislature into a special sitting from April 9 to April 23, 2026, to address pressing national issues requiring immediate attention ahead of the regular session in May. In an official communication to House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, the President invoked Article 32(b) of the Liberian Constitution, which grants the Executive authority to convene lawmakers outside their regular legislative calendar.

The decision comes following the Legislature’s adjournment of its first quarter session on March 19. President Boakai emphasized that several urgent matters cannot be delayed, notably the printing of additional Liberian Dollar banknotes and the passage of the 2026 Supplementary Budget.
According to the Executive, these measures are critical to stabilizing the economy and ensuring the smooth operation of government. The President also hinted at other key national concerns that will be presented during the special session. President Boakai expressed optimism that members of the Legislature will respond promptly to the call and act decisively in the interest of the nation, particularly on fiscal and monetary priorities.
