In a landmark effort to enhance media professionalism and foster international collaboration, approximately thirty Liberian journalists have departed for the People’s Republic of China to participate in a two-week intensive capacity building program aimed at strengthening their journalistic skills and broadening their global perspective. The training, scheduled to take place from August 1–14, 2025, will bring together journalists from a cross-section of media institutions in Liberia. It is being organized by leading Chinese media organizations in partnership with the Government of China. The program will include a wide range of workshops, seminars, and hands-on training sessions focusing on multimedia reporting, digital storytelling, ethical journalism, and global news coverage trends. The initiative reflects a growing partnership between Liberia and China in the area of media development and cultural exchange. It is expected not only to improve the technical competencies of Liberian journalists but also to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of both countries. Participants will have the opportunity to visit major Chinese media houses, engage with veteran journalists and media professionals, and explore China’s rapidly evolving media landscape. They will also participate in cultural activities designed to enrich their understanding of China’s history, society, and development journey. “This program marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the Liberian media sector,” said a representative from the organizing team. “Equipping journalists with modern tools and exposure is crucial to strengthening democratic governance, accountability, and national development.” The capacity building trip aligns with Liberia’s broader goals of empowering local media to play a critical role in shaping public discourse, promoting transparency, and educating the citizenry. It also reinforces China's commitment to supporting media development across Africa through training and knowledge-sharing platforms. Upon their return, the participating journalists are expected to share the knowledge gained with colleagues in their respective newsrooms, ultimately contributing to a more informed, responsible, and dynamic media landscape in Liberia. The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, has expressed its appreciation to the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia for facilitating the program and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strong international partnerships that promote professional growth and cultural diplomacy.
