Armed Robbery Shakes Duport Road Community: Gunfire Erupts Near Baptist Field

Panic and fear swept through the Duport Road community early Tuesday morning when a group of suspected armed robbers launched a brazen attack near the Baptist Field, targeting the residence of a local money exchanger. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:50 AM, according to eyewitnesses, who reported that the assailants remained in the area for over 30 minutes. Residents were jolted awake by the sound of repeated gunfire, prompting many to remain hidden in their homes out of fear for their lives. The barrage of gunshots made it nearly impossible for anyone to contact law enforcement in time.

Eyewitness accounts described the gunfire as unusually muffled “like an old iron,” one resident noted making it difficult for those farther from the scene to detect the urgency of the situation. This reportedly delayed wider community response and possibly contributed to the robbers’ ability to operate without immediate interference.  A resident of the area, reported hearing over 15 shots during the assault. He confirmed that while there were no fatalities or kidnappings, individuals inside the targeted home sustained serious injuries. The attackers fled before the police could respond. Law enforcement officials arrived on the scene only after the suspects had escaped. A preliminary investigation led to the recovery of a single-barrel firearm and over 20 spent bullet casings, some believed to have been fired during the robbery. Police have not confirmed whether the recovered weapon belonged to the suspects or the victims. The attack has left residents shaken and concerned about the rising audacity of criminal elements operating in and around Monrovia’s residential communities. Many worry that the boldness and coordination shown by the assailants mark a troubling escalation in local crime.

“This is terrifying,” said one resident who asked to remain anonymous. “We don’t feel safe even in our own homes anymore. The police need to step up patrols and protect the people who live here.” Community leaders and residents are now calling on security agencies to increase night patrols and enhance law enforcement visibility in the area. They also urge the government to take swift action to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. The Liberia National Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the suspects or any potential leads in the case. Meanwhile, residents continue to grapple with the psychological aftermath of the violent break in. The Duport Road incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes that have raised alarms about public safety in urban neighborhoods. As investigations continue, residents hope that justice will be served and that their community will not be forgotten in the wake of yet another senseless act of violence.
