The General Auditing Commission (GAC) of Liberia has announced the successful completion and publication of thirty-six (36) audit reports covering donor-funded projects from the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). These audit reports are now publicly accessible on the Commission’s official website. The published audits reflect GAC’s steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability in the management and execution of donor resources across Liberia. Collectively, the donor projects under audit account for an estimated three hundred million United States dollars disbursed annually to support critical development programs, ranging from infrastructure to agriculture, health, education, and capacity-building initiatives. Auditor General P. Garswa Jackson emphasized that the audits are part of a broader effort to ensure that funds provided by Liberia’s development partners are used for their intended purposes and that project deliverables are being implemented in line with approved objectives. “The importance of transparency and accountability in the use of donor funds cannot be overstated,” said Auditor General Jackson. “Through these audits, we are not only promoting fiduciary responsibility but also validating whether project objectives are being met, ensuring that our citizens are benefiting directly from international assistance.” The Auditor General further disclosed that the GAC will publish the two remaining donor project audit reports covering GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Project Financial Management Unit (PFMU) within the next two weeks. These final reports will complete the GAC’s 2024 cycle of donor project audits. The timely release of these audit findings underscores the Commission’s proactive role in strengthening public financial management and rebuilding trust between donors, the Government of Liberia, and the Liberian people. It also serves as a tool for national stakeholders including the Legislature, civil society organizations, and the media to track progress and demand accountability in the use of public and donor resources. In addition to donor project audits, the GAC has now embarked on a nationwide effort to execute statutory audits of Government Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs). This initiative includes the conduct of special audits, where necessary, with the goal of bringing the audit status of most Government of Liberia (GoL) institutions up to Fiscal Year 2024 by the end of December 2025. This ambitious undertaking demonstrates the Commission’s resolve to instill fiscal discipline and adherence to national laws and regulations within public sector institutions. It also aligns with international standards of audit and best practices in public sector governance. The GAC encourages the public, development partners, and all interested stakeholders to visit its official website www.gac.gov.lr to access the full audit reports and to remain engaged in the country’s pursuit of good governance and accountability.
