In a major boost for infrastructure development in Nimba County, ArcelorMittal Liberia has announced that the pavement of the Ganta–Yekepa Road is nearing completion, with work now well beyond Sanniquellie and rapidly progressing toward the Ganta–Guinea border. The announcement was made by Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, during his recent visit to Liberia. Mr. Mittal reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to Liberia’s development by pledging to fully complete the road project, which is being 100% funded by ArcelorMittal Liberia. “We are continuing to invest in the community, in education, in vocational training, and in critical infrastructure like the Ganta–Yekepa Road,” said Mr. Mittal. “Our commitment is not just in words, but in real, visible progress that benefits the people.”
The Ganta–Yekepa Road, spanning over 60 kilometers, is a vital economic and social artery for Nimba County. Once fully paved, the route will significantly improve transportation efficiency, enhance access to markets, and facilitate the movement of goods and services throughout the region. This development stands to benefit thousands of residents, traders, farmers, and local businesses. ArcelorMittal’s involvement in this infrastructure project is part of a broader effort to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s long-term growth through investments in roads, education, health, and skills development. Community leaders and residents have praised the progress of the project, noting the reduction in travel time and the increased access to towns and villages along the route. What was once a difficult and dusty journey is quickly becoming a smooth and accessible corridor connecting communities and creating opportunities. “Roads mean access. Roads mean opportunity.
Roads mean development,” a local official remarked during the Chairman’s visit. “And ArcelorMittal is making that happen here in Nimba.” This announcement comes at a time when infrastructure remains a top priority for Liberia’s national agenda, and the Ganta–Yekepa corridor is viewed as a key component of regional integration and economic growth. Citizens are encouraged to visit the site and witness the progress first-hand. ArcelorMittal Liberia continues to invite public feedback and engagement as it works to deliver on its promises to Liberia and its people.
