Nobel Laureate and peace activist Madam Leymah Gbowee has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the United Bong County Association of America (UBCAA) for honoring her during a special ceremony held over the weekend in the United States. The recognition, presented during UBCAA’s annual convention, celebrated Madam Gbowee’s unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, women’s empowerment, and her longstanding dedication to the people of Liberia particularly her native Bong County. “I am truly humbled and grateful for your recognition,” Madam Gbowee stated in her remarks following the ceremony. “To be honored by your own people those who know your roots, your journey, and your passion is both a privilege and a blessing.”
In a moving message to her fellow citizens of Bong County, Madam Gbowee called for collective reflection on the current challenges facing the county, particularly the harmful impact of political division. “As we celebrate this moment together, I hope and pray that we, the citizens of Bong County, take time to reflect on the current state of our county and the divisive politics that have held us back,” she said. “It’s time for us to come together as one people, setting aside exclusionary politics.” Madam Gbowee emphasized that the path to progress lies in unity, inclusion, and shared purpose. She urged all sons and daughters of Bong County both at home and abroad to recommit themselves to a vision of collective development and reconciliation.
“By uniting, we can open new doors of opportunity and work to reinvent Bong County into the best in Liberia,” she continued. “Let us make the phrase ‘Kukatonon’ unity and togetherness a reality for this generation and those to come.” As Bong County continues to navigate economic, social, and political challenges, Madam Gbowee’s message is being received as a timely call for healing and transformation. The United Bong County Association of America is a diaspora organization committed to supporting development efforts in Bong County through education, healthcare, and community empowerment initiatives. The weekend event brought together a diverse group of Liberians from across the United States, as well as leaders and stakeholders committed to Bong County’s advancement.
