In continuation of Liberia’s active diplomatic engagements with Member States of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) today held a productive bilateral meeting with representatives of the Republic of Singapore. The discussion focused on deepening mutual cooperation and strengthening collaboration on shared maritime interests. The high-level meeting, held on the margins of the ongoing IMO engagements in London, brought together key members of the Singaporean delegation, including Madam Nurul Fitrah Abd Rashid and Mr. Ryan Sim. Representing the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), the delegates exchanged views with Liberia’s Maritime Commissioner on a wide range of issues, including maritime safety, capacity building, digitalization, and sustainable shipping. “It was a distinct honor and pleasure to meet with the Singaporean delegation just a few minutes ago,” the Commissioner said in a post-meeting statement. “Our discussions were insightful and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and partnership between our two maritime nations.”
During the meeting, the Commissioner expressed Liberia’s deep appreciation for Singapore’s continued support to the development of Liberian maritime professionals. Over the years, the Republic of Singapore has extended numerous technical training opportunities and scholarships to Liberian maritime executives, significantly enhancing the country’s human resource capacity in the maritime sector. “On behalf of the Liberia Maritime Authority, I extended our heartfelt thanks to the Government and people of Singapore for their stately generosity,” the Commissioner added. “Their contributions have helped shape a new generation of maritime leaders in Liberia who are committed to safety, sustainability, and innovation.”
The two sides agreed to explore new areas of collaboration in line with global maritime priorities, including green shipping initiatives, seafarer welfare, and regional maritime security. Both delegations underscored the importance of maintaining open lines of communication and enhancing bilateral maritime cooperation in support of a rules-based international maritime order. Singapore and Liberia share a strong record of collaboration within the IMO framework and have often aligned on major policy issues aimed at improving global shipping standards and environmental sustainability. The Liberia Maritime Authority reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Singapore and other IMO Member States to uphold safety at sea, facilitate fair maritime trade, and promote the training and welfare of seafarers.
