Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence Receives Delegation from Lofa County to Discuss Development and Inclusion

June 16, 2025

On Thursday, June 12, 2025 Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence welcomed a distinguished delegation of women and elders from Lofa County to the Capitol Building, in a meeting marked by dialogue, unity, and a shared commitment to inclusive national development. The delegation was led by Lofa County Senators Joseph Jallah and Momo Cyrus, who were accompanied by traditional leaders, community elders, and women representatives from across the county. Their visit to the Senate leadership underscored a growing effort to deepen collaboration between Liberia’s legislative leadership and the rural communities whose voices are often underrepresented in the national conversation. During the meeting, the Lofa delegation raised several key development concerns, including road infrastructure, access to health and education services, and the need for sustained investment in agriculture and youth empowerment. The women and elders also called for greater inclusion in national policy formulation and expressed a desire to see traditional and grassroots leadership play a more active role in shaping the country’s future.

Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence warmly received the delegation and acknowledged the critical role that rural communities—and especially women and elders play in Liberia’s democratic and cultural fabric. She praised the people of Lofa for their resilience, unity, and contributions to national peacebuilding and expressed her deep appreciation for the visit. “I am honored to welcome this delegation from Lofa County,” said Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence. “Your voices carry the wisdom of our traditions and the aspirations of our future. I remain committed to a Senate that listens to and works for all Liberians, especially those in our rural communities who have long been marginalized in the development process.” She reassured the group that the Senate, under her leadership, would continue to prioritize inclusive governance, regional equity, and community-driven development. The Pro Tempore also promised to work closely with the relevant committees and line ministries to ensure that the concerns raised by the Lofa delegation would be addressed through tangible policy actions and legislative advocacy.

Senator Joseph Jallah, speaking on behalf of the Lofa County legislative caucus, commended the Pro Tempore for her historic role as the first female to lead the Liberian Senate and described her leadership as a unifying force in a time of great national expectation. He emphasized that communities in Lofa and other rural counties must be brought into the center of development plans if Liberia is to truly advance. Senator Momo Cyrus echoed the sentiment, noting that the Senate’s openness to local voices, especially from traditional and grassroots sectors, signals a promising direction for national governance. “Today’s meeting is more than a courtesy visit it is a symbol of our shared values and a reaffirmation of our collective responsibility to deliver for the people,” Senator Cyrus stated. The visit concluded with a symbolic exchange of gifts and expressions of mutual respect and collaboration. Both sides committed to continued engagement in the spirit of unity and service to the Liberian people.
