The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, hereby informs the general public that effective Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Bambu Town Bridge the primary entryway into Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County has been temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic to allow for urgent structural repairs. This critical intervention, which is expected to continue through Sunday, July 13, 2025, has been deemed necessary to ensure the safety of commuters and preserve the integrity of this vital transport link. The bridge has shown signs of deterioration requiring immediate attention to prevent any potential risk to lives and property. In a joint statement issued today, the Ministry of Justice, under the signature of Acting Justice Minister Atty. Mmonbeydo Nadine Joah, emphasized the importance of public safety and infrastructure resilience as the driving force behind the decision. “This temporary closure is a proactive measure designed to safeguard the public while ensuring that a critical access route to Bopolu City remains strong and dependable for years to come,” said Atty. Joah. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but the safety and well-being of our citizens remain our top priority.” The Ministry of Public Works, which has deployed engineers and technical teams to the site, confirmed that the repair works include reinforcement of the bridge structure, replacement of compromised components, and safety testing before reopening to the public. In the interim, motorists and commuters are strongly advised to avoid the area or proceed with extreme caution, especially during periods of limited access. To accommodate essential travel, intermittent access will be granted to vehicles at designated time intervals, coordinated by traffic officers and on-site engineers. The Ministry has also called on residents, commercial drivers, and visitors to remain patient and cooperate with the authorities as the project advances. “We thank the people of Gbarpolu County, especially residents of Bambu Town and Bopolu City, for their understanding and continued cooperation,” said a statement from the Ministry of Public Works. “These necessary repairs will not only restore the bridge but also contribute to safer and more reliable road access in the region.” Further updates on the status of the repair work and timing of full bridge reopening will be provided as work progresses. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Public Works reaffirm their commitment to transparent communication and community engagement throughout the process.
