“The Deal Will Provide Jobs” --Rep. Flomo Backs Ivanhoe Deal

Grand Bassa County District #4 Representative, Hon. Alfred Flomo Flomo, has publicly declared his support for the proposed mining agreement between the Government of Liberia and Ivanhoe Liberia Ltd., even before the deal is formally submitted to the Legislature for ratification. In a statement issued this week, Representative Flomo described the agreement as a timely opportunity for economic growth and job creation. “I believe that the signing of the agreement between the Executive Branch and Ivanhoe is in the best interest of our country, as it will create more jobs for our citizens,” he stated. Although the Ivanhoe deal is still pending formal submission to the Legislature, Rep. Flomo confirmed his readiness to back the agreement once it is presented. “This agreement will be sent to the Legislature for ratification, and I will be among the many legislators reviewing it to ensure its passage,” he affirmed. “Providing more opportunities for Liberians is our first priority.” The Ivanhoe agreement, once ratified, is expected to pave the way for significant investment in Liberia’s mining sector, particularly in Grand Bassa and surrounding counties. Preliminary estimates suggest that the deal could lead to hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, infrastructure development, and increased revenue generation for the country. Rep. Flomo’s early endorsement has sparked a wave of public interest and debate. While many constituents and observers have praised his pro-development position, others have expressed caution about lawmakers supporting deals before fully reviewing the terms and conditions. Critics argue that legislative independence and due diligence should guide the ratification process. Nonetheless, the District #4 lawmaker remains confident in his stance. “Our people are in need of employment. They are hungry for change. We cannot continue to sit back while opportunities pass us by,” Rep. Flomo stated. “It is time to act in the best interest of the nation.” As the Ivanhoe agreement moves closer to the Capitol Building, all eyes are on the Legislature to see how the ratification process unfolds. Rep. Flomo’s vocal support may influence others, setting the tone for what could become one of the most closely scrutinized legislative decisions in recent years.
