Delivering his first-ever remarks at the prestigious event, VP Koung opened by extending warm greetings from His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and expressed deep appreciation to the organizers and the people of Qingdao for their warm hospitality. “Today is the first time a high-level delegation from Liberia is represented at this summit,” he noted. “It signifies a new beginning for further collaboration between Liberia and China.”

In his keynote speech, Vice President Koung emphasized the importance of forging strategic partnerships built not only on trade, but also on mutual trust, innovation, and shared prosperity. He highlighted Liberia’s strong economic ties with China and expressed the nation’s readiness to explore new opportunities in infrastructure development, green energy, and technology transfer. “Although our two nations have a strong existing economic bond, I have come to explore new opportunities for a mutually beneficial cooperation,” VP Koung stated. “We want to deepen trade relations, promote joint investment opportunities, and build lasting partnerships that deliver results – not only for today, but for generations to come.” The Vice President praised Qingdao’s status as one of China’s most dynamic coastal cities, known for its strategic port infrastructure, manufacturing excellence, and leadership in green innovation. He described Qingdao as a model for economic development and international cooperation, and noted the potential for similar initiatives to support Liberia’s economic growth.

“Multinational cooperation is no longer a choice it’s an imperative,” he said. “Let this be the beginning of a bold, forward-looking partnership between Liberia, China, and the global community.” In addition to his address at the Summit, Vice President Koung and his delegation toured the Qingdao Port one of the world’s busiest and most technologically advanced seaports. The delegation received briefings on automation systems, logistics efficiency, and maritime operations with a view toward replicating best practices to modernize the Freeport of Monrovia. “Qingdao Port showcases the future of global trade and logistics,” VP Koung remarked. “Our experience here opens new avenues for collaboration in port development, digital trade, and skills training for Liberia’s young workforce.”

The Vice President also engaged in high-level discussions with executives from leading Chinese multinational corporations on strategic investment opportunities in Liberia, particularly in port expansion, industrial parks, and sustainable infrastructure. The Summit featured panel discussions on innovation, ESG standards, cross-border investment, and South-South cooperation. Liberia’s participation reinforced its commitment to multilateral engagement and economic diplomacy. As the Summit concluded, VP Koung expressed optimism about the future of Liberia–China relations. “Let us continue to build a future based on respect, shared interests, and mutual benefit,” he stated. His visit is expected to catalyze new bilateral agreements, investment projects, and knowledge exchanges that will enhance Liberia’s role in regional economic integration.
